Sinn Féin MLA Mickey Brady has said persecution against any group must be condemned. He made his comments after a debate in the Assembly on the persecution of Christians in Iraq and Syria. The Newry & Armagh MLA stated, “Sinn Féin believe that persecution against any group, wherever it occurs and for whatever reason, is wrong and must be condemned. “Many minority groups are being persecuted in this region and that needs to stop. It should also be remembered that the suffering in this region is not confined to one faith group or ethnic community. “Tens of thousands of people from all backgrounds have been killed in the ongoing conflicts there. He added, “Unfortunately such persecution exists across the world. Persecution of minorities in northern Iraq is no different to the persecution of minorities here in some areas across the North.”
