Unbridled chic was the order of the day at Down Royal’s Premium Summer Race Evening.

Newry’s Katrina Trainor was a finalist

Thousands of fashionistas descended on the County Down racecourse, and local girl Katrina Trainor battled it out against the other style queens to come in as a finalist in the Best Dressed competition at the one day event. The Best Dressed competition was judged by Galgorm’s Kath Bell, Miss Belfast Jayne Higgins and Ulster Tatler’s Nuala Meenehan. And with Northern Ireland’s most stylish women jockeying for position it was no easy task to choose the winner. Kath Bell from Galgorm Resort & Spa said the standard of style was exceptional, with ladies going the extra furlong for fashion. “It’s great to see guests embrace fashion with their own sense of style and occasion with lots of weather appropriate sartorial choices. Picking a winner was not easy, but all the finalists did really well to get so far as the competition was very tough!” Katrina was pipped to the post by Rachelle Liggett, a primary school teacher from Portadown, who wowed the crowds with her vintage inspired look of navy and cream with a feather cape. As well as the coveted Best Dressed title, Rachelle won a luxury four star weekend for two at Galgorm Resort and Spa, including dinner in the award-winning River Room restaurant and a chance to unwind in the tranquil thermal spa with a choice of treatments. The Summer Race Evening is the last of the season, ahead of the Northern Ireland Festival of Racing on October 31st when punters will be able to enjoy a newly designed bar area at the venue, with work starting just days after the Charles Hurst Premium Summer Race Evening. General Manager Mike Todd says it’s an exciting time for the venue. “This work marks the completion of a multi-million pound investment in Down Royal over the past few years, providing bar service, dining and tote all in one beautifully refurbished room. “Down Royal is also teaming up with award winning butcher Peter Hannan to provide the best quality local produce for our guests, providing value and quality for our sought after punters packs.”
