Politics, What's On
Sinn Féin MP MLA Chris Hazzard has urged people across the north to take part in a ‘Day of Action’ against Tory welfare cuts on Saturday September 20th.

Sinn Fein MLA Chris Hazzard

Speaking to Newry Times, Hazzard said, “There is a growing realisation that Tory-led welfare cuts would have a devastating impact on all communities here. “This cuts agenda, drawn up by a cabinet of millionaires in London, will hit the poorest and most vulnerable in our society. This is not about reform; it is an attack on the poor and an attempt to dismantle the welfare state. Sinn Féin is totally opposed to the introduction of these cuts. “We have already launched a petition to give people the opportunity to voice their opposition to these drastic cuts “We will now be holding a Day of Action in cities, towns and villages across the North to allow communities to send a clear message to their political representatives that these cuts are unacceptable”. He added, “I’m urging as many people as possible to come along and support the Day of Action in your local area to stop Tory cuts.”
