All Ireland Primate recognised as a ‘progressive thinker’

Newry & Armagh MP Conor Murphy has offered his best wishes to the Archbishop Eamon Martin on his succession as Primate of all-Ireland following the resignation of Cardinal Sean Brady.

The Sinn Féin MP said, “Archbishop Eamon Martin is recogonised as a progressive thinker and a man who has demonstrated an ability to connect with ordinary Catholics. “The next few years will be crucial for the Church and Archbishop Martin as he sets about restoring confidence in congregations throughout the country.” His colleague Cllr Dáire Hughes, who is also the Mayor of Newry & Mourne, said, “Myself and most people within our Newry & Mourne communities look forward to his official elevation to the position of Cardinal and Primate of all-Ireland. We wish him well in meeting the many challenges that he will face in the years ahead.”
