‘Jim Wells out of touch over Gaza’ – Ruane
Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has said that Jim Wells is out of touch with the majority of the people in his criticism of the recently held Gaza protests.
“The people of Gaza have been subjected to a barrage that has seen over 1800 people, including women and children killed and over 9000 injured since the attack began nearly one month ago.
“The United Nations have accused Israel of war crimes and gross violations of international humanitarian law so it is proper that people express their concerns in a public fashion,” she insisted.
“I travelled to Gaza after a previous bombardment and seen for myself the death and destruction and devastation caused to the local community by these attacks.
“While I am proud that the Republican community have been at the fore of the protests many have been attended by people from all religious and political persuasions.
“Jim Wells would be better suited in calling for a credible peace process to be developed in Palestine rather than attempting to score a cheap political point,” Ruane added.
Councillor Sean Doran added, “The local community will not be deterred from highlighting the injustice that is being inflicted on the people of Gaza and will continue to organise to oppose the slaughter of the innocent that is currently happening.”
