Bradley congratulates Church of Ireland Irish Language Society on Centenary
SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh Dominic Bradley has congratulated the Church of Ireland Irish Language Society on its 100th anniversary.
Commenting on the celebration Bradley, who is the SDLP Irish language spokesperson, said, “The Church of Ireland has a long and honourable tradition of promoting and using the Irish language in its liturgy, going back to the foundation of Cumann Gaelach na hEaglaise (the Church of Ireland Irish Language Society) on 29th April 1914 and, indeed, before that date.
“The Church provides services in Irish in all parts of Ireland, including Northern Ireland.
“I had the pleasure of attending the Irish language St. Patrick’s Day service this year in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh and I know the Church does it best to provide for Irish speakers in Gaeltacht areas also.
Bradley added, “I congratulate the Church of Ireland Irish Language Society on its Centenary and extend every good wish to the society for the future.”
