Local showjumpers complete a successful first year in the saddle
Two local riders, Charley-Rose Ward (age 8) and her brother Dylan Ward (age 11) each received a major award after their incredible first season’s performances.
She topped the league with wins at Cavan, Ballymena, Banbridge, Saintfield and the National Balmoral Championships. She went on to represent Ulster and had 2 faultless rounds in the National Championship Finals in Ennis, County Clare.
Dylan her older brother (age 11) also had a remarkable first year in the sport. Not only was it his first year riding but it was his first year competing and entered the sport at the highest level. Dylan travelled the Country and won 2 events on the same day on his pony Master Roan at Saintfield at the new Balmoral Showgrounds.
He was placed 2nd at the following venues: County Clare Agricultural Show, Connell Hill Randalstown, Clogher Valley, The National Pony Championships, Millstreet Show, Cork, Banteer Pony Finals in Cork and also in the Ulster Region (1 metre) Grand Prix Final in November.
He was 3rd at Armagh Show and 4th at Banbridge, White’s Cross, Cork and Charleville Agricultural Show. As a result of the string of successes it was no surprise when Dylan was selected along with 3 other Northern Ireland riders to represent the Province at the National Pony Championships where they achieved the runners up position in the 128 cm pony team event.
On Saturday evening, Dylan received a special talent award as one of the most promising under 12 riders in Ulster and received a bursary towards his further training.
