Sinn Féin Councillor Sean Doran has asked for the community of the Mournes to remain vigilant following another attempted robbery in the area.

Speaking to Newry Times, Doran commented, “In the early hours of Tuesday morning thieves were disturbed as they attempted to burgle a garage on the Newry Road in Kilkeel.

“This is a business run by a hard working family who not only provide a service to the community but also provide employment to local people. For these thieves to attempt to damage and rob this property in such a way is completely disgraceful.

“This incident comes just a couple of weeks after an assault and robbery in the Annalong area and a number of other attempted burglaries in the wider South Down area.

Doran added, “As a member of the PCSP I will be bringing my concerns to the PSNI with a view to apprehending these individuals as soon as possible. Anyone with any information regarding this act should report it immediately to the police.”
