Police catch suspects ‘cleaning blood from themselves’ after Newry assault

Police in Newry have arrested two men and a woman following an incident in the Edward Street area on the evening of Friday 15th November.

A passing police patrol discovered a badly injured man in Edward Steeet at around 6.30pm.

It was initially unclear how the man had come to sustain his injuries, however officers conducted an immediate search of the area and arrested two men, both aged 29, in a nearby flat, who were attempting to clean evidence of blood from themselves.

A 33 year old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault on police and then charged to appear at Newry Magistrates Court. Both men remain in custody helping police with their enquiries.

The injured man, who is in his 30’s, was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries to his face, head and body.

Police would ask anyone who has any information about this incident to contact them in Ardmore on 0845 600 8000.

Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
