SDLP Spokesperson for Culture, Arts and Leisure, Karen McKevitt has offered her congratulations to local author David Park after his nomination for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said, “I am absolutely delighted to hear that David has been nominated for this prestigious award. “He is one of the great literary talents we have in the North and deserves to be recognised as such. David’s past works have shone a unique light on our troubled past and his contribution to the rich cultural tapestry in this region is truly special. “His latest work, ‘The light of Amsterdam’, is another triumph and makes poignant mention of the funeral of local legend George Best. McKevitt added, “I only hope now that the judges can see what we’ve all known for years- that David is an incredibly gifted story teller, he has helped record the challenging narrative of Northern Ireland and would be a worthy recipient of this prestigious honour.”
