Man, 36, charged with mobile phone theft

Police in Kilkeel have arrested and charged a 36 year old man following the theft of a mobile phone.

A report was received of a Samsung mobile phone being stolen from take away premises on Newry Street, Kilkeel, just before 1pm on Monday, 21st October.

Two men were observed in the premises and descriptions were provided. CCTV were made aware of the descriptions and were able to provide information on the mens’ direction of travel.

Officers on patrol observed the two men a short time later and a 36 year old male was arrested after he was found in possession of the Samsung mobile phone. The phone was recovered.

The man was subsequently arrested for possession of Class A drugs and charged with this offence and burglary.

He appeared before Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 23rd October and entered a plea of guilty. He was sentenced to one month imprisonment, suspended for 12 months.
