Police seek man after 1994 Newry sex attack on 8 year old girl
Detectives from the Serious Crime Branch investigating the attempted murder and serious sexual assault of an eight year old girl in Newry in 1994 have released an image of a person they wish to identify.
The image, which shows the man how he might appear today, nearly 20 years after the horrific attack, is the latest progression in the case which was relaunched on 7th February 2013.
The girl was playing with a friend close to Barcroft Community Centre on 10th June 1994 when she was approached by an unknown man aged in his late teens or early twenties.
He separated her from her friend and took her to an area of woodland within Daisy Hill Nursery where he assaulted her.
Because the little girl sustained serious head injuries the attack is being treated as attempted murder.
Police have launched a fresh appeal for information and are appealing to anyone who has information in relation to this attack, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact detectives on 028 38366274.
If you prefer to provide information without giving your details you can contact the independent Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
