Alliance South Down spokesperson Councillor Patrick Clarke has welcomed the progress being made by the Employment and Learning Minister, Stephen Farry, in his review of teacher training infrastructure.

Following the appointment of Dr Pasi Sahlberg to chair a panel to take forward this review, the Minister has appointed the other members of the panel; Patricia Broadfoot, Dr John Coolahan, Professor John Furlong and Gordon Kirk.

Alliance South Down spokesperson Councillor Patrick Clarke said, “I welcome the Employment and Learning Minister’s continuing commitment to carrying out a full and effective review of our teacher training infrastructure.

“He has already stated that he would like to see a more shared and integrated system for the delivery and funding of teacher education. The appointment of these leading experts in the field of educational research, will ensure that the Minister has the best possible advice in his decision making process.”

Clarke added, “I would like to wish them every success in their work in developing options for a more shared and integrated, and sustainable system for the delivery of teacher training.”
