The classes, which are organised by Armagh Irish language organisation CAIRDE Teo in conjunction with the Culture Committee of Armagh GAA, cater for beginners, intermediate and advanced. The cost of £10 includes lunch.

The course is part of Armagh GAA’s efforts to increase the profile of the national language within the county and give members an opportunity to brush up on their language skills.

As well as a series of intensive Irish courses, Cairde Teo also organise midweek evening classes on Wednesday with up to 90 students attending four different levels of classes in St Catherine’s College in the city.

The group is also participating in a world record attempt at the longest non-stop Irish language conversation circle ever held.

The event called Comhrá 24/7 is being organised by Bliain na Gaeilge, Irish Language year, with one hour slots across a seven day period being designated to Irish language groups and schools throughout Ireland and throughout the world.

Bliain na Gaeilge have organised a number of opportunities for the Gaels of Armagh to participate. On Tuesday 1st October the weekly Ciorcal Comhrá Ard Mhacha group will link up with the world record attempt between 10pm and 11pm in the Station Bar.

On Wednesday 2nd October, Armagh Gaels are invited to attend a conversation circle in Red Ned’s between 9pm and 10pm and a third conversation circle has been organised for Thursday 3rd October between 9am and 10am in the Gael-Linn offices in Armagh.

This is an ideal opportunity for Irish speakers and learners to meet up and practice their Irish in a friendly environment.
