Pat Jennings celebrates 20 years of peace building with Co-operation Ireland

For 20 years, one of Ireland’s most popular sporting legends Pat Jennings has organised his annual Golf Classic at Royal County Down Golf Club, Newcastle, to support Ireland’s leading peace building charity Co-operation Ireland and raise funds for its work with young people. To date over £500,000 has been raised through Pat’s efforts.

Young people from diverse communities are given an opportunity to meet and work together with others with whom they would not normally have contact, on both a cross community and cross border basis through a variety of innovative contact programmes.

Over 20 programmes are currently being organised by Co-operation Ireland, ranging from large scale All Island projects to localised community engagement initiatives.

5,000 people, mostly young participants, will benefit from such programmes in the next calendar year.

This year’s 20th anniversary Golf Classic on the world famous links of Royal County Down will be held on Monday 7th October.

The event has generated such goodwill and interest that Co-operation Ireland has expanded it to include ‘A Tribute to Pat Jennings Evening’ at the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa, beside Royal County Down Golf Club, following on from the Golf Classic.

The Tribute to Pat Jennings Evening will include a 4-course Gourmet Dinner followed by Entertainment with some of Northern Ireland’s top Comedians and Dancing to the James Peake Xperience Showband.

Pat will be joined by some of his friends from the world of Sport and Show Business, as he recalls his own incredible sporting achievements and remembers some of the more arduous challenges he has undertaken as a patron of Co-operation Ireland, including both riding the 200 mile Maracycle and walking from Dublin to Belfast.

Should you wish to support Pat and one of his favourite charities at the Tribute to Pat Jennings Evening in the Slieve Donard Resort & Spa, individual places or tables of 10 or 12 are still available.
