Alliance welcomes new tourism events fund
Alliance South Down spokesperson Councillor Patrick Clarke has welcomed a new Tourism Event Funding Programme launched to support the local events industry.
The programme is administered by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) and designed to drive visitor numbers, increase spend in the local economy and raise the profile of Northern Ireland as a positive place, not just to visit, but to live, work, study and invest in.
NITB has streamlined and restructured the programme to ensure it supports the further development of national and international tourism events taking place in Northern Ireland from 1st April, 2014 until 31st March, 2015.
Speaking to Newry Times, Clarke said, “I welcome the new Tourism Events Fund by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) which has been launched today to help support the local events industry by helping attract more visitors to come to Northern Ireland to stay and also spend.
“The new Tourism Events Fund will help to stage further events, festivals and activities that will attract people to come to Northern Ireland and will help assist the events industry to attract and stage major events and festivals.
“Northern Ireland has already hosted many great events in 2012 and 2013 attracting many international visitors and tourists and will also in 2014 host the prestigious Giro d’Italia and the Tall Ships returning in 2015,” Clarke revealed.
“The new simplified funding package by the NITB gives public, private and voluntary organisations funding to plan major events in Northern Ireland capable of attracting visitors and tourists and also help promote Northern Ireland tourism industry.
“I would encourage public, private and voluntary organisations considering hosting an event to attend the road shows in Belfast, Portrush, Londonderry, Enniskillen and Newcastle in September to find out full details on the new Tourism Event Funding Programme,” he added.
