Newry and Mourne District Council in partnership with European Recycling Platform (ERP) are pleased to announce the winners of their waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) competition. The competition was open to anyone who recycled an unwanted electrical item at any of the Councils Household Recycling Centres (HRC’s) from 17th June- 17th July 2013. The prize was a Kindle and £20 Amazon gift voucher for one person from each of 7 of the HRC’s participating. All entrants were asked to give a reason why they thought recycling WEEE was a good idea. The winners were presented with their prizes by the Mayor Michael Ruane who said, “Congratulations to the 7 winners of the competition, we hope they will enjoy their new kindle. Recycling WEEE helps saves resources, energy and the environment. “I would like to encourage all of our residents to make full use of their local Household Recycling Centre where they can recycle up to 22 different types of material. Last year our recycling rate was 37% and we would like to improve on this next year. This can only be done with help from everyone in the District.” For more information residents should log onto the Council website www.newryandmourne.gov.uk or Tel 028 30313233.
