Irwin outraged at Newry paramedic assault
Newry & Armagh DUP Assemblyman William Irwin has condemned an incident in a bar in Newry when a firework was thrown at paramedics treating a man with a leg injury. The paramedics sustained slight hearing distortion and burns to clothing and despite the attack were able to continue treating the casualty. Irwin stated, “This is a ridiculous act and thankfully the paramedics were not seriously injured. “Indeed their professionalism deserves special credit as they continued to treat the casualty despite being subject to a very dangerous and threatening situation.” Meanwhile, the PSNI in Newry have revealed that a 20 year old man has been charged with 2 counts of common assault, 2 counts of criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon and disorderly behaviour in relation to the incident.
