Police Service seeks nominations for 2013 Policing with the Community Awards

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Policing with the Community Awards and the Police Service of Northern Ireland is encouraging the public to submit nominations for the Police Officer of the Year and the Neighbourhood Policing Team of the Year categories.

Speaking after the launch of this year’s awards, E District Commander, Chief Superintendent Sam Cordner said, “These Awards provide a channel to publicly recognise and reward outstanding examples of local police, who are working in partnership with local people to find local solutions to local problems.

“They pay tribute to the contribution and commitment of police officers and staff within our organisation. The Police Service of Northern Ireland is committed to delivering the finest personal, professional and protective policing service to all communities across Northern Ireland.

“Engaging with local communities is key to our success. We continue to explore new ways of engaging with local communities, ensuring that officers and staff are available in the right numbers, in the right places at the right times to make a difference.

“Policing with the Community embodies the ethos of the service we deliver. Our Policing with the Community 2020 Strategy is designed to ensure all our people understand and deliver their community policing role reaches way beyond the day to day visible services we provide through response and neighbourhood policing.”

This year a new category has been introduced, the volunteer of the year award to recognise work carried out by volunteers in conjunction with Police Service of Northern Ireland to help make local communities safer.

The Police Service has a dedicated Policing with the Community Branch that develops community policing and best practice throughout the service. The Awards, which are an initiative of the branch, are designed to acknowledge commitment and innovation.

Nomination forms can be obtained by logging onto http://www.psni.police.uk/directory/updates/policing_with_the_community_awards-2013.htm or contact the Policing with the Community Branch, PSNI Lisnasharragh.

The closing date for nominations is 5 pm on Monday 15th July 2013.
