Extension of brown bin contract
An extension of the contractual relationship between the Southern Waste Management Partnership (SWaMP2008) and Keady-based Natural World Products (NWP) means that householders across the region can now do even more to help the environment.
The Keady plant was the first fully-compliant composting animal by-product facility in Northern Ireland.
Cllr. Connaire McGreevy, SWaMP2008 Chairman, has welcomed the move saying, “NWP has played a significant role in helping us to reduce the amount of food and garden waste being sent to landfill and this extended contract will build on that early success.
“Although the amount of kitchen food waste generated by the average household is relatively small, it is very significant in terms of weight, and so the impact on landfill reduction is greater. We need to treat our household waste much more effectively than we currently do and this announcement should be seen in that light.”
Caolan Woods, Director of Organics with Natural World Products Limited, was equally enthusiastic, “NWP is one of the few companies in the UK with the skills and experience required to compost all types of food waste to fully compliant standards”, he said.
“This contract extension will help householders in the SWaMP region increase their already high recycling rates. We’re delighted to be a part of this important landfill reduction programme”.
Graham Byrne, SWaMP2008 Chief Officer, added, “In reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill we’re helping to eliminate the potential financial burden to rate payers whilst simultaneously helping the environment. And that has to be good news for everyone”, he commented.
