The Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, Councillor John McArdle hosted the launch of the Newphonic Concert in the Council Chamber.

The Concert will be held in McClelland Park on Saturday 29th June and will bring together a host of well known artists.

Headlining the Concert will be Alexandra Stan, in her first appearance on the island of Ireland. Other acts include Charlie Brown, Starboy Nathan, DJ Hix, Ryan Dolan with Zenemy, DJs Diva Dolls, Jessie K and Rayanna.

Speaking at the launch, Mayor McArdle said, “This is really fantastic news for local music fans, and promises to be one of the most engaging and exciting events to take place in our City in recent years and will I believe become a signature music event that ensures Newry is seen as a “must go” destination in the coming years.

“Newphonic will be a fantastic additional annual festival for our city, bringing together international and local musicians to produce really exciting and memorable experiences.

The excitement is already starting to build for what’s set to be an unprecedented line-up of artists in a programme that has wide appeal and that will bring plenty of beat to the city’s streets.

“I would like to pay tribute to the talent, energy, and dedication of the promoters, MaMa Concert Entertainment Ltd. Through their Vision we are poised and ready to capitalise on the wider economic and regeneration benefits that such a major event will breath into our City.

“I have no doubt that this will be a success story that will build year on year. Newry’s vibrant nightlife and compelling music scene has always been known for fostering emerging artists and turning out many major successful acts and this provides the perfect backdrop for what will be one of the biggest nights in music on this island.

The Mayor added, “The fact that an international, award winning artist has chosen to perform in Newry, for her first performance anywhere on the Island of Ireland is proof of the efforts of everyone involved in building and proving our proud City’s credibility and ability to host big and memorable Events.”

“Newphonic endorses what many have been saying for some time now – Newry is a happening place. Newphonic will add to its attraction as a vibrant, energetic and modern place to visit, shop and live in.

“Congratulations to all involved, Newry & Mourne Council is proud to be partners with you and together we will put Newry on the national and International music map.”
