Free bag of compost for Compost Awareness Week

In celebration of Compost Awareness Week 6th – 12th May, gardeners in Newry and Mourne will be able to pick up a free bag of compost on Friday 10th May.

The compost is supplied by Natural World Products in Armagh, and is made up from the organic waste collected in the brown bin scheme and the Council’s Household Recycling Centres.

Mayor John McArdle said, “30% of the waste an average household produces can be composted. Composting helps to significantly reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

“Householders in the area composted nearly 6000t of kitchen and garden waste last year. We want to build on this success and encourage everyone to recycle their food and garden waste in their brown bin or at their local Household Recycling Centre.”

To claim a free bag of compost make your way to Newry, Kilkeel, Warrenpoint, Crossmaglen, Hilltown, Aughnagun, Newtownhamilton and Camlough Household Recycling Centres on Friday 10th May.

Customers will also be able to claim 1 large green sack if they recycle green waste. Due to the popularity of this giveaway and limited availability customers are advised that they should come early to avoid disappointment and that there is only one bag per customer.
