Ulster Bank announces big push on mortgage lending in Newry

Ulster Bank has launched a major new campaign to further support mortgage lending in Newry.

A leading provider of financial services here, the Bank has significant funds to lend to a wide range of borrowers, and is gearing up to further stimulate and support demand during a key period of the year for the mortgage market in the months ahead.

To help consumers get a mortgage to suit their needs, Ulster Bank has established a team of dedicated mortgage experts, including Newry-based Ann Callan – the 10 of whom will work with its 180 local mortgage qualified branch staff across Northern Ireland.

Stephen Cruise, Head of Branch Banking, Private and Specialist Financial Advice Northern Ireland at Ulster Bank, said, “We are absolutely focused on communicating to potential borrowers that there is money available to lend and that we are here to make the process as simple as possible to help them get the mortgage that is right for their individual circumstances.

“In 2012, we were able to significantly grow our share of the mortgage market and as a key contributor to the housing market, we continue to support demand for mortgage finance.

“We have always had mortgage qualified staff in each of our branches but we are taking this a step further to create a team of dedicated mortgage experts who will operate across Northern Ireland.

“Their sole aim is to make the mortgage process as easy and stress free as possible for customers and help them get the right mortgage to meet their needs.

“Whether purchasing a new home or moving to Ulster Bank from another lender, customers only go through this process a few times in their lives and we believe it is important for them to have easy access to someone who can be with them each step of the way.”

Ann Callan is one of Ulster Bank’s mortgage expert team. She has 15 years’ experience and has helped hundreds of customers through the mortgage process.

Speaking to Newry Times Ann said, “A mortgage is one of the biggest financial commitments people will make and my role is to guide them through the process from start to finish, making it easy for them to get the right mortgage.

“We can give people an indication of what we believe they can realistically afford to borrow, how much we are prepared to lend and what their monthly repayments would look like so they can make an informed decision on the mortgage that is right for their individual circumstances.”

Ulster Bank has lent over £1.5billion into the Northern Ireland mortgage market since the property price peak. In 2012, the bank ended the year accounting for almost one in five mortgages in Northern Ireland compared to one in 10 at the beginning of 2012, based on figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML).

To make it easier for customers to understand their options, Ulster Bank has an online mortgage calculator which borrowers can use to determine their possible mortgage costs and see what kind of mortgage might best suit their budget and needs before taking to Ulster Bank’s team.
