Rogers attends multi-agency meeting to tackle Annalong drainage
South Down SDLP MLA Seán Rogers has spoken out following his attendance at a meeting in Marine Park, Annalong.
Speaking to Newry Times, Rogers explained, “I attended a meeting along with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, DARD’s Rivers Agency, representatives from the Development Association and other elected representatives to discuss historic drainage issues in the green area between the Marine Park and the housing development – Donard Park.
“For over 20 years residents in this area have been experiencing difficulties in terms of flooding and also a concern for safety. An open drain to the rear of Donard Park runs down the side of the open space however it stops short of the shore so effectively leads nowhere.
“This drain floods frequently and these gardens are saturated, it is an environmental issue and is an accident waiting to happen with young children in the area.
He added, “A further meeting is required with Rivers Agency and representatives from Newry and Mourne District Council in order to move this matter onto the next phase. I will continue pursuing this matter until a resolution is achieved for the people of the area.”
