Three local Nisa retailers win awards at 2013 Nisa Member Awards

Three Nisa stores based in Northern Ireland were presented with top awards at the 2013 Nisa Member and Supplier Awards which took place at Stoneleigh Park on Tuesday 9th April.

The evening, which was hosted by comedian Patrick Monahan, celebrated Nisa retailers that demonstrated excellence in the last year and included awards such as Best Supermarket Store and Best Fresh Food Store.

Nisa Extra, Fiveways located on Armagh Road, Newry was awarded the Best Supermarket of the Year award which was received by store manager Frank Hagan. The impressive new build store was recognised for its excellent range and service as well as its high store standards.

In addition to this the Nisa Extra store on Main Street, Camlough, which is owned by Jim Hughes and his family, won the accolade for Best Fresh Food Store for its extensive offering of fresh foods which rivals that of the multiples. The store joined Nisa last year and has since been extended and refitted to a very high standard.

Furthermore, the Nisa Extra store based on Newry Street, Rathfriland won the award for Best Use of Technology for its exceptional use of Nisa’s epositive till and back office system and for its innovative development of social media to drive business forward.

Neil Turton, Nisa’s chief executive officer, commented, “Each year at our Stoneleigh exhibition we take time to acknowledge retailers and suppliers who have shown areas of excellence within the last year. It is great to see such strong retailers in Nisa membership who epitomise the true meaning of independent retailing.”

Tom McAvoy, of Nisa Extra, Rathfriland, said, “Our IT team, under the guidance of our IT manager, Gary Crory, has worked with Nisa head office to streamline the epositive system to suit our individual needs.

“We enjoy the challenge of new technology and are always keen to embrace innovative methods to liaise with our customers thus enhancing the day-to-day performance of our store.”

Grainne Hughes, of Nisa Extra, Camlough, said, “All at Nisa Extra, Hughes are delighted to pick up the Best Fresh Food award at Stoneleigh. This is testimony to all the hard work and commitment shown by our staff of which we are very thankful.”

Frank Hagan, manager of Nisa Extra, Fiveways, Newry said, “As manager of Fiveways shop and service station I was delighted to receive the Best Supermarket of the Year 2013 award.

“This award is a tribute to and a reflection of the dedication and hard work of the management and staff throughout the year and on an on-going basis. We aim to maintain this high standard in the future while continuing to provide a valuable, friendly and efficient service to our local community and surrounding area.”
