Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has called for the Water Service to install a pumping station in St Jude’s to resolve the long-term problem of flooding. Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane said, “I have spoken to residents in the St Jude’s area that are fearful that there will be more damage caused to their property if we get a heavy period of rainfall. “In the past their homes have been flooded and the only way to resolve the problem is for the installation of a pumping station. It is important that people have confidence that they can live in their homes without worrying about the weather and how it will effect their property. Ruane added, “I have now called for a meeting with the Water Board so that we can resolve this problem over the summer months before the inclement weather returns.”
