Sinn Féin Councillor Turlough Murphy has condemned the illegal dumping of litter at the Quarry, Keggal road, overlooking Camlough Lake. Speaking to Newry Times, Councillor Murphy explained, “A sizeable amount of illegal litter has been dumped at the Quarry, Keggal road. It is an absolute disgrace and I have contacted the council to ask them to send out one of their lorries to clean up this mess. “I was informed by the council that it costs the rate payer’s in Newry and Mourne District £1.3 million a year to cater for the costs of cleaning up litter. This litter has been dumped at a ‘beauty spot’ and does nothing to enhance this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Murphy added, “Anyone that has witnessed such acts should report these incidents to the Environmental Health Agency, as ultimately we have to pay for the removal of litter.”
