St. Joseph’s Convent Primary School achieves prestigious Green Flag Award
Pupils and teachers at St. Joseph’s Convent Primary School are celebrating this week after receiving the internationally recognised Eco-Schools ‘Green Flag’.
The Eco-Schools programme, which is run by Tidy NI, encourages pupils and teachers to address a variety of environmental topics, ranging from energy to bio-diversity, with schools being awarded the ‘Green Flag’ for excellence in achieving their goals.
Principal at the school, Doreen O’Neill said, “St. Joseph’s Convent Primary School is a large urban primary school situated in the centre of Newry. The entire school community is delighted to receive the Green Flag Award.
“The Eco-Committee is working consistently within the school to promote environmental awareness with great achievement.”
Eco-Schools Manager, Carmel Fyfe added, “We are providing practical help to schools as they learn more about energy and progress with their Eco-Schools Programme. It is wonderful to see schools like St Joseph’s Convent Primary School getting involved and making real efforts to save energy, money and the environment.
“All the staff and pupils at the school can be proud of their efforts,” Carmel added.
