SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt and Councillor Sean O’Hare have requested an urgent meeting with the Roads Service to discuss safety measures on the Carnmeen Road in Hilltown.

Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said: “A number of serious accidents have occurred at a particularly bad bend and we believe they could be avoided in the future with appropriate safety measures.”

Councillor O’Hare added, “It is important in cases like these that Roads Service looks beyond the amount of traffic on a rural road which may be relatively small, and looks at the actual danger posed to drivers,  passengers and residents by the road hazard, which can be very great.”
