Murphy calls for Hilltown roads improvements

Crotlieve Sinn Féin Councillor Mick Murphy has welcomed the urgent action being taken by the Roads Service on a part of the Kilkeel Road that has collapsed just past the turn off from the Castlewellan Road leading out of Hilltown. He has, however, urged them to look at the rest of that stretch of road leading towards Doran’s Pub.

“There needs to be a general programme of works here generally as the state of the road is perilous for drivers and has the potential to lead to serious accidents,” Councillor Murphy stated.

“I would also like to express my thanks to the Roads Service for the upcoming resurfacing work around Dana Place heading into Hilltown. I also welcome the improvements they are making on the Newry Road leading out of Hilltown towards Murphy’s Corner.

He added, “But I would ask them to take on-board the request I made to them at a meeting on November 28th, asking them to improve the road generally along the Seven Sisters stretch. Only the day after the meeting there was an accident here and there is a real danger of fatalities unless something is done.”
