SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt welcomed the fast response of Power NI to billing problems she raised with them. Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said: “Over the summer and autumn we were getting complaints from people with direct debits who were suddenly finding themselves paying far more for electricity. Bills were sometimes doubling and tripling. “I met with a senior representative of Power NI who told me that a new billing system introduced in May did not give recognition to some people whose payment accounts were actually in credit. She added, “However, they did move quickly to fix problems notified to them and I think credit is due to Power NI for acting so quickly. Bodies which deal with the public are judged not so much on whether they make mistakes but how quickly they respond and get things fixed.”
