Sinn Féin Councillor Brendan Curran has called for the speed limit to be reduced from 40 mph to 30 mph on the Old Warrenpoint Road.

Speaking to Newry Times, Curran said he has been in contact with the PSNI and they were in agreement that the speed limit should be reduced.

“This has been communicated to Roads Service but as yet they have failed to implement the 30mph limit. I have been inundated with calls from concerned residents over the past few months and my main priority is for pedestrians who have to cross this very dangerous road.”

He added, “I call on the Roads Service to enforce the 30mph limit and implement traffic calming measures immediately to prevent any serious accidents.”
