Newry Revitalisation Scheme gets thumbs up after £300,000 funding

Newry City Centre Management in conjunction with Newry and Mourne District Council and local traders have been successful in making a funding application to the Department of Social Development for a revitalisation scheme for the newly completed Newry Public Realm Areas in Hill Street and Monaghan Street.

The revitalisation scheme will provide £300,000 over the next two years to implement a variety of innovative projects to assist in the marketing of the Public Realm Areas.  These will include market projects, major events, shop front reconfiguration and painting.

Councillor John McArdle, Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council congratulated the Department of Social Development for agreeing to fund the revitalisation scheme and stated that the programme of events and projects will assist in the revitalisation of Newry City Centre.

Mr Jack Murphy, Chairman of Newry City Centre Management stated that the revitalisation programme was an excellent example of how various partners can come together to complete an application to assist in the continued economic revitalisation of Newry City Centre.

He congratulated the local development office of the Department of Social Development in assisting in making their application successful.
