Murphy expresses anger over bike trails damage

Sinn Féin Councillor Mick Murphy has called on those responsible for damaging the new bike trails in Kilbroney Park to immediately cease their actions. The trail network will not be open until the entire project is finished and signed over in early 2013.

Speaking to Newry Times, Murphy said,

“A number of people have taken it upon themselves to ignore the construction signs which are causing a major problem to the ongoing work for the World Police and Fire Games in 2013.

“Problems have been reported including people riding trails that are supposed to be climbing trails and dragging breaks around corners leading to sections becoming eroded and damaged.”

Murphy added, “I would call on the people committing these acts to immediately stop this as these trails are not open to the public as of yet and I would ask you to respect the wishes of the contractors.

“Someone could be seriously injured along these trails and I would urge caution to all using the forest during the construction phase.”
