SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt and Crotlieve Cllr Declan McAteer have congratulated Ireland’s newest and youngest golf star, Sean Ryan (5) of Burren who has won a qualifying place to compete in the World Golf Championships in North Carolina next year.

Speaking to Newry Times, she said: “The whole community is incredibly proud of our star golfer Sean Ryan. He really is a little wonder, without receiving any lessons and having only got his first real clubs last July, Sean has become a golfing star. He loves the sport so much he even sleeps with his clubs.”

McKevitt added, “His name is already the talk of golf circles and this certainly won’t be the last we hear of him. His hero is Rory McElroy and I predict Sean will follow in his footsteps.”

SDLP Crotlieve Cllr Declan McAteer added: “Sean has captured the imagination of a whole community which is uplifted by his remarkable performance. We wish him all the best with the World Championships in the USA next year.”
