South Armagh MLA meets Portadown Youth Group
Newly appointed Assembly Member Megan Fearon has met with a group of young people from Portadown. The meeting was arranged by Camlough Community Association as part of an annual visit by the group to the Republican monuments of South Armagh.
Commenting after the meeting, Fearon said,
“I really enjoyed meeting these young people from Portadown. Many of the group had a completely different political outlook than myself and I know some of them are members of Loyalist Bands which made for an interesting discussion.
“These young people were keen to hear about my Republican beliefs including the history of republicanism and what it actually means to be a republican today. In turn, I enjoyed hearing about their experiences and points of view.”
Megan added, “We also talked about the role of young people in society and in politics and we found that the issues affecting young people in Portadown and South Armagh are largely the same regardless of background or politics.
“I really enjoyed this event and I would like to thank Camlough Community Association for the invitation to attend. I am always open to meeting other young people from diverse backgrounds and I believe that we can only achieve a fair society through everyone working together in a spirit of respect and reconciliation.”
