Clarke calls for pedestrian crossing

Alliance Newcastle Councillor Patrick Clarke has called on DRD Roads Service to install a pedestrian crossing along Main Street Castlewellan.

Clarke says he  is concerned at the number of people trying to cross Main Street near Castlewellan Library and has requested Roads Service to carry out an initial survey.

Speaking to Newry Times, Clarke stated:

“A number of constituents have contacted me and voiced their concern to me at the difficulty in crossing Main Street between Castlewellan Library and the local shops on the opposite side of the street.”

“The traffic also entering and leaving Castlewellan Forest Park further adds to the concerns  of pedestrians trying to cross Main Street in safety. I have therefore made written representations to DRD Roads Service to explore the possibility of a new pedestrian crossing near Castlewellan Library.”

He added, “Given that this particular part of Main Street is very busy with vehicles and pedestrians I am therefore requesting DRD Roads Service to give very serious consideration to my request.”
