The 12 year old girl is described as being in a critical condition in Newry's Daisy Hill Hospital

A 12 year old girl is fighting for her life after being hit by a van today.

The collision happened on South Armagh’s Finegan’s Road – between Jonesboro and Dromintee – at approximately 1:15pm this afternoon when the young girl was walking along the road and struck by a red van.

She was immediately rushed to Daisy Hill Hospital, where she is described as being in a critical condition.

The road remains closed while the Newry PSNI investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and a spokesperson for the Police spoke to Newry Times and appealed for witnesses to come forward and contact them with any information.

More to follow.
