Clarke welcomes new warning signs at Castlewellan Forest Park

Alliance Newcastle Councillor Patrick Clarke has warmly welcomed new signage which has now been erected on the exit gate pillars at Castlewellan Forest Park in an attempt to slow traffic down on the non Forest Service owned road leading from the Forest Park.

Clarke had requested the Forest Service back in June to erect appropriate signage on the exit pillars at Castlewellan Forest Park to forewarn drivers of the presence of pedestrians and walkers and the need to drive slowly on the private road leading from the exit pillars onto the Bann Road in Castlewellan.

Speaking to Newry Times, Clarke stated:

“My main concern was that there was no proper signage prior to my request to Forest Service to adequately forewarn drivers of the presence of pedestrians and walkers on the exit road out of Castlewellan Forest Park.”

“Some drivers were clearly driving out of the Forest Park unaware of pedestrians and walkers along the private road beyond the exit point.”

He added, “The new signage erected by Forest Service I believe will clearly advise drivers as they leave Castlewellan Forest Park to reduce their speed and to also be aware of pedestrians and walkers.”
