‘Sewerage issues must be dealt with immediately’ – Harte

Sinn Féin elected representative Valerie Harte has told Newry Times she has been working on behalf of residents of John Mitchell Street Flats to resolve issues of raw sewerage seeping into properties.

Councillor Harte said, “A resident of John Mitchell Street flats contacted me to request assistance with sewerage problems. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the extent of the problem in his property. As the photographs show this is a major problem for this resident and has serious implications for health and safety, not just for this resident but for all adjoining properties. To make matters worse this man had only recently moved into the property and had completed extensive renovations including new floors and doors.”

Councillor Harte continued by outlining steps currently underway to address the problem. “I have contacted the Housing Executive and NI Water in an effort to resolve the problem and I must say both agencies have been most helpful. Most recently I have learned that NI Water have identified the problem and are currently in the process of fixing it. I hope this is the case and I will be calling back to the property to ensure the matter has been resolved.”
