MP Conor Murphy, MLA Mickey Brady and Newry Town Councillor Valerie Harte were on the fairway despite the inclement weather last Friday to launch Newry Sinn Féin’s fundraising Golf Classic.

The Golf Classic takes place on Saturday 30th June in Ashfield Golf Club, Cullyhanna and teams consisting of 4 people are asked to make a donation of £120 to participate. Councillor Harte, who is taking part on the day despite her lack of golfing experience said, “I am heading out now to buy my plus fours so at least I’ll look the part even if I fail to hit any holes in one!”

“Joking aside,” councillor Harte continued, “This is a major initiative for Newry Sinn Féin and we are hoping that local golf enthusiasts and businesses will come on board in terms of participating during the event and supporting the various sponsorship packages on offer.”

MLA Mickey Brady added, “There is already a buzz building round this event and I think it represents great value for money. For the participation fee, which is only £30 per person, those taking part will receive a meal, their round of golf, and have a chance of winning some really good prizes.”

Those interested in taking part on the day can email golfclassicnewry@gmail.com or contact Newry Sinn Féin on 028 3026 1693 for more information
