McKevitt hails GAA’s Danny Murphy on Honorary Doctorate

SDLP Culture, Arts and Leisure spokesperson Karen McKevitt has congratulated Danny Murphy, Secretary and Director of the Ulster Council of the GAA on the news that he is to be awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Ulster.

Speaking to Newry Times, the South Down MLA said: “I am delighted for Danny that he is to be honoured in such a way. Danny is a neighbour of mine and a great servant of the GAA, not to mention a brilliant ambassador for Irish sport in general, and it is only right and fitting that the University of Ulster should choose to confer this honorary degree on him.”

She added, “Not only has Danny made promotion of Gaelic Games his life’s work, but he also makes a massive contribution to his local community and I know that everyone in the area will warmly welcome this news. To Danny and his family, I send my congratulations and best wishes, along with those of the whole of the SDLP.”
