South Down MLA Chris Hazzard has welcomed the announcement of a new boiler replacement scheme to be rolled out in September. Mr Hazzard explained that following a pilot scheme by the Department of Social Development, the scheme would allow for owner occupiers to avail of a number of measures aimed at increasing the energy efficiency of the home. Speaking to Newry Times, Hazzard said, “The scheme will be administered by the Housing Executive and whilst we are still a good few months off the commencing of the project, I would urge owner occupiers in South Down to contact my office if they are interested in the scheme. We can signpost them to the relevant agencies where their details will be logged for them to receive a call back in September.” He added, “If your combined household income is less than £40,000 per annum and your boiler is more than 15 years old, you may be eligible. I would encourage local people to at the very least log their interest with their local Sinn Féin office.”
