Flower power as Siobhan blossoms in Chelsea Flower Show

Sinn Féin councillor Terry Hearty has extended his congratulations to local florist Siobhan Hughes, who has been awarded a bronze medal at the world famous Chelsea Flower Show.

Siobhan (24), who hails from Crossmaglen and works for George Preston Flowers in Newry, was awarded the bronze medal  for her impressive arrangement of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Chandelier.

“This young woman has proven that even during times of economic hardship when the most attractive option for many young people is to emigrate the potential still exists to excel in any given field” said Councillor Hearty.

“To be selected to represent Ireland in the first instance is a fantastic achievement for Siobhan and to go on to pick up a medal demonstrates her talent, commitment and hard work.”

He added, “It is wonderful to have such Crossmaglen talent showcased on the world stage and it is only right that we celebrate the achievements of our young people. I wish Siobhan all the best for the future.”
