Police man injured during security alert disturbances
Police were attacked last night by a number of youths throwing petrol bombs, bricks and stones as they dealt with a security alert on the Camlough Road in Newry.
One officer received minor injuries by what Area Commander Chief Inspector David Beck described as a ‘criminal element’. Speaking to Newry Times, Beck stated, “I would like to thank the people of Newry for their patience and co-operation. You see again a small criminal element intent on bringing mayhem and disruption, with absolutely nothing else to offer.”
“A full investigation into this incident, as well as subsequent attacks on my officers is now underway.
He added, “Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police in Newry on 0845 600 8000. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
