Clarke calls for traffic calming measures along Tollymore road

Newcastle Alliance Councillor Patrick Clarke has asked DRD Roads Service to consider placing traffic calming measures along the Tollymore road in Newcastle. He believes that motorists are speeding along the stretch of road following a recent road resurfacing scheme. He said concerned members of the public have contacted him claiming of motorists driving through the built up residential area with excessive speed.

Speaking to Newry Times, Clarke said, “The Tollymore road, particularly from the Bryansford road direction has a number of residential housing developments, which motorists are ignoring when speeding. Recently parts of the Tollymore road has been resurfaced making the road easy for motorists to drive at increased speed through a resdential area.”

He added, “I have also asked that speed limit indicator signs be also placed along Tollymore road to warn motorists. The PSNI have also agreed to monitor the Tollymore Road with traffic cameras at my request.”
