Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane has welcomed a presentation on digital TV in the Assembly outlining the changes that will happen due to the digital switchover in October.

Speaking to Newry Times, the South Down MLA stated: “This informative presentation outlined what would happen come October when the analogue signal will be switched off permanently and all televisions will only operate through a digital signal. Digital TV have launched an advertising campaign that will explain what will happen and also how the elderly and the infirm can avail of certain packages.”

Ruane added, “I took the opportunity to raise the issue of local companies being able to tender for the contracts so they would benefit from any work arising out of the switchover. Sinn Féin believes the switchover should have happened on an all Ireland basis where RTE and BBC would share masts lessening the environmental impact in many areas.”
