Newry City U-18s Meet The Players: Micheál Hastewell

Recently Newry Times caught up with U-18 Midfielder Micheál Hastewell:

Name: Micheál (Mickey) Hastewell

Age: 17

Position: Centre Midfield

Previous clubs: Lisdrum Celtic

Greatest achievement so far in your career? Being chosen for the county Armagh milk cup squad, it was a great experience and I got to play Chelsea’s underage team as well as other big clubs from England.

Best player you have played against? Loads of players at milk cup, 1st year professionals as they are called up there.

Best ground you have played in? Played in a few good grounds but Newry showground’s is as good as anywhere.

Who is your sporting hero? Steven Gerrard

What club would you like to play for in the future? Would like to keep playing for Newry and someday play for the first team

What is one thing that you enjoy while playing football? Love the game and it’s the only sport I want to do.

What inspires you to play football? The will the win, proceed and get better and be part of a successful team.

What is your least favourite training drill? 3 Hundreds sprints (Ryan Mc Convilles favourites)

Who has been the biggest influence in your career so far? My dad, he is always full of encouragement and support.

What brought you to play for Newry? It’s my local club and i’m proud to play for the town.

Who is the biggest joker in the team? Definitely Lenny (Connor Lenaghan), never heard a man like him!

Who is the best trainer at the club? Jordan King and Doakey (Craig Doak)!

Who has the worst taste in music in the team? Has to be Daniel Rowney!

And finally..What’s your favourite thing about playing for Newry? Representing Newry and getting the opportunity to play for reserves. This year has been very good as I’ve met new people and new managers.
