Kilcoo club notes – 9th April 2012

Saturday saw the annual Gary Cunningham tournament took place. There was some great football played by all the young teams involved in the competition. Clonduff and Attical contested the A final with Attical winning in an entertaining final.

The Seconds had a very convincing victory over Clonduff on Saturday evening to remain top of the league.

The U-8 and U-10 Camogs had their first outdoor blitz of the season in Castlewellan on Saturday.

It was a great day out for all the girls on both U-8 and U-10 teams played with great enthusiasm and passion together with a good demonstration of their camogie skills. Well done to the wee Camogs in both teams.

The Under 8 Girls were: Ellen Kelly, Ciara McEvoy, Kayley Grant, Olivia Rooney, Ceallach McEvoy, Ellie-Jo McCabe and Shanna Fettes.

The Under 10 girls were: Clionagh McConville, Eva McEvoy, Grainne McAneaney, Megan Rogan, Ciarrai Doherty, Kelly McEvoy and Sian Doherty.

Also Congratulations to the both our new referees from the Kilcoo Club, Maria Fulcher and Leon McCusker, who carried out their refereeing duties competently and with distinction. Well done girls, you have done your club proud.

A big thank you to all the Mums and Dads who came along to support and encourage their children on the day, keep it up!

On Thursday 12th April a new local newspaper will go on sale for the first time. It shall carry stories of local importance such as farming news, sport, community news, editorials, local information, and also carry competitively priced advertisements. It will be available from Dublin Road Mini Market and also at McConnell’s Bryansford, Walkers Castlewellan and Morgan’s Meats Hilltown.

There are currently 76 teams registered for this year’s Mourne Challenge and Dander with plenty of room for you to enter your team. Do you feel like you could challenge yourself and complete this event whilst enjoying a fantastic day’s craic in the high Mournes, taking in some spectacular scenery and joining in the camaraderie that is unique amongst all entrants? The entry fee is £60 per person and after that you can generate funds for the club or for a charity of your choice and the event can be done competitively or as a walk with your friends, affording you the luxury of taking in the breath taking views and mountain air. Every year this event has grown in stature and is evident this year with it finishing in the all new Tollymore Mountain Centre that it is very much the leader in this field.

Anyone wanting to join a Running Club can meet at Hillyard House at 6.45 every Tuesday with John A McEvoy. Everyone welcome both male and female. Contact no 07753639696

The club is intending raising some much needed funds by turning scrap metal into cash. Over the next few months we will be arranging collection of scrap from households who wish to donate. Anyone with scrap metals of any type that they would like removed please contact Roger Morgan on 028 437 23886

A ten week Irish Language course for beginners shall start on Tuesday 24th April, more details next week.

A scholarship for any juvenile member attending A Gaeltacht College Course this summer can be applied for from The Down County Board. If you wish to apply you must use the proper form and these are available from Aoife O’Hanlon, and must be returned before 28th April.
