Mayor Casey welcomes ‘Children’s and Young People’s Strategy’

Mr. Thomas McCall, Chief Executive, Mr. Eddy Curtis, Director of Administration and Mayor Charlie Casey

The Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, Councillor Charlie Casey has welcomed representatives from a number of agencies to the first meeting of a Strategic Alliance to develop a Children’s and Young People’s Strategy for the Newry and Mourne area. The Council wishes to establish Newry and Mourne as a centre of excellence for Children and Young People.

They want their strategy to reflect the pledge given by the Government that all children and young people will thrive and can look forward to the future with confidence. The role of the Strategic Alliance will be to provide input and expertise and to spearhead a civic approach to an overarching commitment between partners to address the needs of children and young people. This is the first time that a Local Authority has developed such a strategy.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Alliance, Mayor Casey said, “This is a very challenging and exciting opportunity for us to develop a practical and inclusive Children’s Strategy and I hope you will join in working to create a fair society where all our children and young people can expect a decent standard of living and the best start possible.”
